Michael Gordon, The Man That Brought You Bumble And Bumble

Michael Gordon, son of a hairdresser, began his career at the age of fifteen in London. At the age of twenty-one, he was the youngest Artistic Director at London's Elizabeth Arden Salon, where he had his first encounter with editorial work. After opening his first salon with his brother in Johannesburg, South Africa, Michael decided to move to New York City for his next challenge.

In 1977, Bumble and Bumble opened its doors in a tiny space on 57th Street, to compete with Manhattan's top names in hairdressing. Michael immediately began producing photos for magazines, as he felt it was the best way to show the press what Bumble and Bumble was about, and demonstrated to his staff the caliber of work that was expected of them. After only one year, Bumble and Bumble was listed in Vogue as one of the top ten salons in New York City - and it has remained a leader on that list ever since. Today, Bumble and Bumble is the salon of choice for hip New Yorkers. Modeling agencies trust the stylists at Bumble and Bumble to give their newest girls career-launching makeovers; and magazine editors come to Bumble and Bumble for the latest trends and looks from the season's runway shows.

In addition to the Bumble and Bumble salon, Bumble and Bumble's editorial team is the industry's most prestigious. Bumble and Bumble stylists design hair on more magazine covers and fashion spreads than any other team in the world. Additionally, each season the editorial team works in New York, London, Milan and Paris to style hair on runways for fashion's top designers.

The Lifetime Achievement Award, NAHA’s top honor, recognizes outstanding contributions to the hair and beauty industry and is limited to licensed salon professionals. Past winners represent the preeminent innovators from the industry including: Sam Brocato (2005), Horst Rechelbacher (2004), Robert Lobetta (2003), Irvine Rusk (2002), Renato Brunas (2001), Leland Hirsch (2000), Noel DeCaprio (1998), John Jay (1997), Olive Benson (1996), Geri Cusenza (1995), Arnold Miller (1994), Leo Passage (1993), Vidal Sassoon (1992) and Paul Mitchell (1991).
